City of Ann Arbor
🛑 State Street Construction: Last week, city council approved an $8 million project to overhaul State Street between William (the intersection where the First Congregational Church is) and South University (a tiny bit south of The Union). The project will include adding a dedicated bus lane, adding protected bike lanes, upgrading sidewalks, and removing on-street parking. Construction will start next month and wrap up in May 2026.

🌇 Arbor South: Ann Arbor officials are debating creating a “second downtown” near State Street and Eisenhower Parkway. The 20-acre project, known as Arbor South, would include 1,000 units of multi-family housing (with 210 affordable units), a hotel, 85,000 square feet of new commercial space, and three new parking structures. If it goes through, it would be the “largest public investment in a private development in city history.” On April 7th the City Council voted to continue negotiations on the project. The next meeting is April 15th, where the site plan will be presented to the planning commission.

🪿 Geese Gas Debate: Yes, Canada geese are annoying, but activists say Michigan’s new program that allows for mass CO₂ euthanization goes too far. To shut it down, protestors from California-based group In Defense of Animals are urging Michiganders to call Gov. Whitmer or the Department of Natural Resources and voice their disapproval. To curb the population of geese in the state, the group is pushing for more humane, non-lethal methods instead.
