Morning, Ann Arbor! Tim Walz, the Democratic vice president nominee, was in town for this weekend’s Michigan/Minnesota game. For those not keeping track at home, that means Joe Biden, Tim Walz, Matthew McConaughey, Jack White, Jane Fonda, Adam Scott, Derek Jeter, Michael Phelps, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, and Nick Saban came to town in September.

🏈 Rally House Michigan: After MDen filed bankruptcy (more specifically, the company formerly known as MDen), Rally House purchased the old MDen locations on State Street, Main Street, and the game-day pop-up across from the Big House at auction. Rally House won the three locations with a bid of $7,750,000, a mere $25,000 above Lid Holdings second place bid of $7,725,000. Legends Global Merchandise, the new company selected by U of M to operate under the MDen name, also bid on the locations for an undisclosed amount.

🍁 October Events: Spooky season is almost officially upon us. Here’s a look ahead at October events in town:

• Saturday, October 5: A Michigan vs. Washington football watch party on State Street with multiple 17’ screens, pickleball, fowling, a DJ, and more

• Saturday, October 12 - Sunday, October 13: A2 Artoberfest, a two-day art festival taking over the intersection of Ann and 4th Street with 80+ vendors, live music, and drinks (see the above picture)

• Wednesday, October 16: A2 Gallery Night in Kerrytown, 4 local art galleries will be open to the public with art talks, demonstrations, and artist pop-ups

• Sunday, October 27: Trick or Treat Parade and other “spooktacular” activities on Main Street

📚️ New AADL Cards: Earlier this month, the Ann Arbor District Library (AADL) unveiled nine new library card designs. New or existing cardholders can stop by any AADL location to pick up a new card. And a quick shoutout to the local artists behind the designs:

• Animal round table design: Sloe Gin Fizz

🏀 Spider-Man Meme: Tom Izzo the basketball coach is not running for political office in Lansing, but Tom Izzo the retired GM employee is. The Republican candidate is hopeful his familiar name will help him unseat incumbent state Rep. Kara Hope, D-Holt in this November’s election.

🚌 We Love You: In a heartfelt display of support, 28 school buses were arranged to spell out "we love you" for Mike Hoekstra, a terminally ill bus driver in Hudsonville, as he rode in a hot air balloon with his family above. The surprise was organized by his colleagues and the Hudsonville Public Schools’ Transportation Director to show their love and respect for Hoekstra as he battles stage four colon cancer. Well done, Hudsonville Public Schools.
