KindleFest, Midnight Madness, and Merry Market Return This Friday Night

Morning, Ann Arbor! And welcome to December! If you can swing it, try to head downtown this Friday night - Ann Arbor will transform into a winter wonderland as three downtown districts stay open late and turn on their holiday charm.

It’s one of those “ohh, this is why people love Ann Arbor” nights.

🌲 KindleFest:

🎁 Midnight Madness:

  • What is it: Late-night shopping, discounted eating and drinking, and sidewalk entertainment.

  • Where is it: Up and down Mainstreet

  • When is it: Technically all day Friday but most festivities start at 5

  • Show me a festive hype video: Ask and you shall receive

  • Why are people trying to sell me colorful tags: It’s for charity. Galens Tag Days is a volunteer organization led by U of M medical students that collects donations (in exchange for tags) during Midnight Madness. 100% of donations are given to local children’s organizations. Some downtown businesses will give you a discount if you’re wearing a tag. Here’s a helpful 4-minute explainer video.

🌨️ Record Snowfall: After receiving 24.8 inches of snow on Friday, Gaylord, Michigan, shattered its previous single-day snowfall record of 17 inches set in 1942. The snowstorm is welcome news for the ski town and serves as a promising start to the winter recreation season.
