    • Fraud (106)

    • Assault (86)

  • 73.3% of the county’s 2023 crimes have occurred in the 48197 and 48198 zip codes.

🚽 Downtown Toilets: In an effort to add more downtown bathrooms, City Council unanimously approved a one-year pilot program that would see ten high-tech Throne toilets installed downtown by June 2024. Manufactured by a DC startup, Throne toilets are touchless, ADA compliant, unlock by scanning a QR code, and use usage data to ensure frequent cleanings. City Council allocated $500,000 in funding for the one-year program.

🚂 Proposed Train Routes: Newly proposed Amtrak routes would connect Ann Arbor (via Detroit) to Toledo, Cleveland, and Toronto. The new proposals are in addition to Amtrak’s ongoing studies on creating a rail line between Ann Arbor and Traverse City and a rail line between Detroit, Lansing, and Grand Rapids.

Progressive AE Inc.

⚽️ Grand Rapids Soccer Stadium: New renderings show the design of a proposed soccer stadium in downtown Grand Rapids. The project, still in the schematic design phase, aims to attract a professional soccer team to the heart of GR. As the stadium seeks financing and a lead donor, state legislature is considering supporting the build through local hotel/motel taxes.

🎣 Steelhead Trout Controls: Due to potential declines in the state’s steelhead trout population, Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources has reduced the daily catch limit in select rivers. Effective April 1, anglers in the Carp, Betsie, Manistee, and others, will be limited to one steelhead per day, reduced from the previous three-per-day limit. The new regulations represent the latest in a series of catch-limit reductions dating back to the 1990s.

🍃 Ohio Legalizes Marijuana: Last week’s elections dealt a blow to Southeast Michigan’s marijuana industry. While Ohio voted to approve legal recreational marijuana, potentially affecting sales in southern Michigan, four metro Detroit communities - Birmingham, Rochester, Grosse Pointe Park, and Keego Harbor - rejected proposals to open dispensaries. Despite these setbacks, Michigan's marijuana market, worth $3 billion, continues to grow, with a 28% increase in recreational sales in September year-over-year.
