📚  Crazy Wisdom Bookstore: After closing its doors in February 2022, Crazy Wisdom Bookstore is planning to reopen in “the fall of 2023 or the first part of 2024”. The 40-year-old business will return with limited hours (open just four days a week) and with the second floor converted to an event space.

💰  Main Street Bank Robbery: On Thursday morning, Virgil James Ross, 49, robbed the downtown Chase Bank by handing the teller a note and fleeing on foot with the cash. Ross, who is currently experiencing homelessness, was found unarmed and arrested shortly after the incident.

🏡   County Property Taxes Jump: In response to high inflation rates, the average Washtenaw County property owner should expect their property taxes to increase 5% next year - the largest one-year spike allowed by the state constitution. Spring assessment notices (sent out in March) outline the new rates homeowners should expect to pay.

🚨  Saline High School Threats: Last week, a “kill list” with eight student names on it was found in a Saline High School bathroom. On Thursday, the school closed so the police could investigate. Despite not finding the threat credible, the school remained closed on Friday “out of an abundance of caution”.

🏈  Lions 2023 Schedule: Last week, the 2023 NFL season schedules were released and the Lions were selected to play in five marquee games. In addition to their annual Thanksgiving Day game, the Lions will play in the season’s opening game and three other night games throughout the year. Expectations are high for the Lions this year as they’re predicted to have an 11-6 record and win their division.

👃   Seasonal Allergies: Due to climate change, Michigan allergies may be getting worse. Increased CO2 can cause plants to produce more pollen and warmer temperatures allow a longer pollen-producing season. Ragweed pollen (a common Fall allergen) is increasing by 1% every year.

👦  Slingshot Hero: A 13-year-old Alpena boy saved his 8-year-old sister from an attempted kidnapping by hitting the attacker twice with his slingshot. The fast-thinking boy used his slingshot to strike the 17-year-old kidnapper in the chest and head, deterring the attack. The culprit had visible wounds when he was later arrested.
