🍕 From Cigars to Pizza: The owners of Havana Cigar and Cocktail Lounge on Main Street are remodeling the location to be a pizza restaurant called Detroit Pizza Pub. The restaurant will open in late July or early August with a menu full of Detriot-style pizza, toasted subs, chicken wings, salads, pasta, and roughly 100 beers on draft. Havana originally opened less than a year ago in August 2022.
🚔 Traffic Violations: To build trust with the city’s minority population, the Ann Arbor Police Department will no longer pull over drivers for minor equipment violations such as tinted windows, a cracked windshield, or registration violations. After receiving unanimous support from City Council last week, the AAPD will implement the ordinance immediately.
🚨 Teen Shooting: The Ann Arbor Police Department has opened an investigation into an unknown group of three shooters who fired 25 times at a car of teenagers last week. The vehicle was struck multiple times and ended up crashing into a tree. The four teenagers inside escaped on foot unharmed. The suspects fled before the police arrived at the scene.
🕹 Arcade Champs: Last summer, four Skyline High School graduates set out to earn 30,000 tickets and take home Pinball Pete’s top prize. Last week, after taking a majority of the school year off to complete their freshmen year of college, the group reached their goal and took home a giant Baby Yoda plush. Legends.

📸 Work Zone Speed Cameras: Last week, the Michigan House passed a bill that would allow the state to issue tickets via automated speed cameras in construction zones. The bill would automatically ticket any drivers traveling 10 mph over the speed limit within one mile of a work zone. The bill now moves to the Michigan Senate to be voted on.
🏳️🌈 Banning Flags: A Wayne County city, Hamtramck, recently banned waving any religious, ethnic, racial, political, or sexual orientation group flags on city property - including the Pride flag. Mayor Amer Ghalib and members of City Council reasoned that if the city flies one flag, they should fly them all. So the only flags approved are the United States, the State of Michigan, the City of Hamtramck, POW/MIA, and the flags of other nations.
💰 Cash is King: On September 11, Detroit will ban businesses from exclusively offering card-only payment options and mandate they start accepting cash again. Parking garages, mobile-operated ride-shares, and transactions made by mail, phone, or online are excluded from the new legislature.
