📚 U of M Academic Review: The Higher Learning Commission, U of M’s accrediting body, is reviewing whether the university fabricated student grades last semester. As the semester ended while graduate student instructors (GSIs) were striking, many GSIs refused to enter final grades for the courses they taught. The graduate student union alleges they have evidence the university then pressured department chairs to input falsified grades based on “incomplete information”. This led the union to submit a formal complaint to the HLC.

🚗 Accident at Fraser’s Pub: Shortly before 2 am on Sunday, June 11, a drunk driver crashed into Fraser’s Pub on Packard Street. According to officials, the 62-year-old Chelsea man behind the wheel blew a .28 with the preliminary breath test and was arrested for driving under the influence. An exterior ventilation system and the wall of the building were significantly damaged, but no injuries were reported. Fraser’s was closed Monday - Wednesday but plans to open today with a limited menu.

🏈 M Power: This week Michigan football launched its first official Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program, M Power. Designed to help players navigate off-the-field business ventures, the program educates players on how to grow, manage, and profit from their personal brands.

🍺 Stadium Drinks: A bipartisan bill, sponsored by Sen. Sean McCann (D-Kalamazoo), is headed to the state Senate that would allow public universities to sell alcohol at college sporting events an hour before the game and 30 minutes after. Supporters say that in addition to increasing university revenue, the bill will decrease binge drinking by preventing people from “preloading” before an event while the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism maintains its recommendation to ban alcohol at college sports events. MSU and U of M are two of only three Big Ten schools that don’t sell alcohol at college sports events.

📆 New State Holiday: This week, the Michigan House voted overwhelmingly in favor (105-4) of making June 19 (Juneteenth) a state public holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. With House and Senate approval the bill now heads to Governor Whitmer’s desk to be signed into law. The holiday will be Michigan’s 12th state holiday.
