🚮 Bottle Return: In an effort to improve the state’s recycling rate, lawmakers reintroduced legislature last week that would expand Michigan’s Bottle Bill law to include a 10-cent deposit for all non-carbonated drinks except milk cartoons. Under the current 1976 law, only soda cans, beer cans, and other carbonated drink cans are eligible for the 10-cent deposit return.

💧 Pure Michigan Ads: While passing the new state budget, lawmakers cut the travel office’s Pure Michigan budget from $40 million annually to $15 million annually. As a result, the travel office will halt all national campaigns next year.

🎇 4th of July Explosion: A 41-year-old Holland resident has passed away and 9 others were injured during a 4th of July house party when a cannon exploded, sending shrapnel into the air.
