đ„Ș Dibellaâs Subs: After a fire forced their location to close in February 2022, Dibellaâs Subs (904 W. Eisenhower Parkway) is reopening next Wednesday. The first 30 customers will receive free subs for a year and the first 100 will receive a free red velvet cookie. Tough day for whoever is #31.
đ Indie Bookstore Selling: Booksweet, the family-owned bookstore located at 1729 Plymouth Road, is searching for a buyer. After opening in August 2021, the 2,400 sqft space is looking for a buyer interested in taking over its turnkey business and 9,000+ current book inventory. Any interested buyers can reach the co-owners at [email protected].
đȘ§ Campus Protests: Part of a larger trend of campus activism across the country amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict, Pro-Palestinian protesters were active during graduation events this past weekend. While a peaceful encampment has been set up on campus for the last couple of weeks, things escalated Friday night outside UMMA after a dinner where President Santa Ono was believed to be in attendance. Protestors advanced on the building and police pushed the crowd back. A single individual (who was not associated with the university) was arrested.
Protestors were also present at the commencement ceremony on Saturday morning at the Big House calling for U of M to end any direct or indirect investments that support Israel. The University anticipated such protests and had made it clear ahead of the ceremony that they would not attempt to prevent peaceful demonstrations of free speech.
đ” Summer Music: Last week, A2SF and Sonic Lunch released their summer music lineups. You can find A2SFâs music lineup here and Sonic Lunchâs music lineup here. As both local festivals kick off in June, expect to hear more about them in the coming weeks.

đŠ The Best Michigan Ice Cream: Taste Of Home named Moomers Ice Cream the best ice cream in the mitten. The Traverse City-based ice cream shop is no stranger to high praise - last year it was named the best ice cream in the state by Readerâs Digest and in 2008, Moomerâs was voted the best ice cream in the country by Good Morning America. For any locals craving Moomerâs signature Cherries Moobilee, the Holiday Market in Canton is the closest Moomerâs retailer.
đ Operation Ghost Rider: Last week, Michigan law enforcement officers conducted âOperation Ghost Riderâ, an initiative to reduce distracted driving by having officers in unmarked cars identify drivers using their cellphones, who are then stopped by marked police vehicles. The initiative is part of a larger campaign to reduce distracted driving in the state. Worth noting that last year Michigan passed a law that banned any cellphone use while driving.
đ€ Ticket Purchasing Bots: New Michigan legislation has been introduced to combat the use of bots for bulk buying and reselling event tickets. Influenced by similar laws in Arizona known as the âTaylor Swiftâ bills, the package of bills would prohibit bots in the state from bypassing sales limits and security measures like waiting periods and presale codes. The bipartisan bills were introduced by Reps. Mike McFall (D-Hazel Park) and Graham Filler (R-St. Johns), who joked âweâre in our consumer protection era.â
